05.10.2024 Today, April 17, 2024, the Central Botanical Garden of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus turns 92 years old! The State Scientific Institution "Central Botanical Garden of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus" is one of the oldest botanical organizations in the Republic of Belarus. When creating the botanical garden, the Academy of Sciences set quite ambitious goals in terms of using the gene pool of the world flora for scientific and practical purposes, performing various educational, cultural, educational and recreational functions. The issue of creating a botanical garden was raised in the Belarusian Academy of Sciences (BelAN) back in 1930, when the Presidium of BelAN instructed Academician M.P. Nesterovich and the head of the Department of Botany of BelAN M.N. Goncharik to prepare a report on the transfer of the dendrological park for the organization of the Central Botanical Garden and submit it for consideration by the Council of People's Commissars of the BSSR. On February 23, 1931, at a meeting of the Presidium of BelAN, Mikhail Nikolaevich Goncharik spoke on the issue of organizing a botanical garden. Presumably, a positive decision was made on this issue then. However, the order on the establishment of a botanical garden has not yet been found in the archival documents of the NAS of Belarus. It is reliably known that the construction of the botanical garden began in 1932. On April 17, 1932, the Council of People's Commissars of the BSSR adopted a resolution approving the creation of a botanical garden at the Belarusian Academy of Sciences and instructing the Minsk City Executive Committee to determine the boundaries of the botanical garden. This day became the official date of the founding of the Central Botanical Garden.
