The Central Botanical Garden has new facilities created to support people suffering from rare diseases

The Central Botanical Garden of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus and the representative office of Takeda in Belarus held a joint event dedicated to the International Day of Hereditary Angioedema (HAE) and World Inflammatory Bowel Disease Day (IBD). To attract public attention to these two events, unusual mirror art objects appeared on the garden's alleys, as well as a new flowerbed in the form of a purple ribbon - the symbol of World IBD Day.

International HAE Day is celebrated annually on May 16, and World IBD Day is celebrated on May 19. Hereditary angioedema is a congenital disease that manifests itself in sudden, including life-threatening, swelling of various parts of the body and internal organs, including the respiratory tract.

Inflammatory bowel disease (ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease) is a condition characterized by chronic inflammation of various parts of the intestine with the possible development of severe complications. The main thing that unites both of these diseases is the fact that any person, regardless of gender or age, can encounter this pathology throughout their life. Early diagnosis and appropriate drug therapy help stabilize the condition and reduce the risk of exacerbations, and early diagnosis and knowledge of the first alarming symptoms play a decisive role.

The mirror installation will be available until May 31. It is conceived as a way to draw attention to the changes that the body of a person suffering from HAO can undergo at any time. And the flower bed in the form of a purple ribbon - the symbol of the International Day of Fight against Inflammatory Bowel Disease - has become an expression of solidarity and support for all people who have faced this problem.
