On May 17, 2024, an event dedicated to the International Day of Remembrance of People Who Died from AIDS took place. The central part of the event was the ceremony of updating the flower bed in the form of a red ribbon - the International Symbol of the Fight against HIV infection in the landscape area of the Central Botanical Garden of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

The event was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus, the state institution "Republican Center for Hygiene, Epidemiology and Public Health", healthcare institutions of the capital, the leadership of the UN office in the Republic of Belarus and UN agencies (UNDP, UNAIDS, UNFPA, WHO country office, Office of the High Commissioner for Refugees in Belarus), representatives of non-governmental public organizations.

Love and solidarity for healing and remembrance is the motto of this year's International Day, calling on us all to free ourselves from prejudices and outdated ideas about HIV infection, to preserve the memory of those who died from AIDS (when treatment was unavailable) and to express solidarity with people currently living with HIV infection. The red ribbon pinned to the clothes of millions of people on our planet on this day reminds us that HIV infection has no borders, and that joint efforts and adequate actions can overcome unfounded prejudices and contribute to further progress in prevention.
