28.10.2017 - 28.10.2017

The Central Botanical Garden of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus invites Minsk residents and guests of the capital to the cultural and educational event, the autumn festival "Samhain in the Botanical Garden", on October 28, 2017 from 11:00 to 17:00.

The enchanting autumn season in the botanical garden is coming to an end. The time of bright summer holidays has passed. Autumn collections of flowers are fading in the garden, trees are shedding their leaves. The employees of the botanical garden carefully prepare the plants for winter: they dig them up, select the best varieties, dry them and send them to rest. Plants that winter in the open ground are covered, wrapped in warm material to protect them from the cold and bad weather, and in the spring to give them a new life and please people. The year was generous with gifts, there are many nuts (even decorative ones), hawthorn, dogwood, large-fruited cranberries in the garden. In other words, autumn is a summing up, harvesting, transition to winter. The botanical garden offers to celebrate the harvest of large-fruited cranberries and stock up on vitamins for the cold winter, announcing a large cranberry fair. Visitors who come to the botanical garden for cranberries will be pleasantly surprised. Expanding the geography of its holidays, following the traditions of preserving ancient shrines and the cultural heritage of the world, the botanical garden invites Minsk residents and guests of the capital to a very interesting, unusual event - the ancient Celtic holiday of autumn, the holiday of the end of the harvest - Samhain! According to the customs of the Celts, Samhain marked the end of one agricultural year and the beginning of another - this is a typical seasonal, calendar holiday, which in its features is similar to the autumn holidays of our ancestors. Paying tribute to the Celtic art of music and dance (traditions of Ireland and Scotland), Samhain is also a reason to gather with friends and family for a big festival with folk music, dances, mysterious rituals, battles of ancient warriors, national games and fun, relax in a beautiful landscape and buy a famous and useful product from the botanical garden - large-fruited cranberries. Our visitors will enjoy a fun, varied and unusual program: a meeting with mythical creatures, demonstration dance shows and combat fights, Celtic fun, highland games, fortune telling and fortune telling, a master class in knitting Celtic knots, carving and painting pumpkin figures. Visitors will enjoy performances by the musical groups "Kluaran", "Dohodyagi Band", "Vse Krazu" and, of course, a fire show. And, of course, the town of artisans, hot drinks, various delicacies and much more will come in handy.
