16.05.2020 - 31.05.2020 The State Scientific Institution "Central Botanical Garden of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus" invites Minsk residents and guests of the capital to visit the flowering of the decorative lilac collection as part of the Lilac Week from May 16 to May 24, 2020, from 10.00 to 21.00 (daily, except Monday) In May, during the lilac flowering period, the syringarium becomes the most colorful and attractive exposition of the botanical garden for visitors. During the flowering of the main May beauty, the Central Botanical Garden invites you to get acquainted with the collection of lilac varieties collected in the Lilac Garden (or syringarium). Now the syringarium presents the best varieties of domestic and foreign selection, differing in color, structure and size of flowers and inflorescences, timing and duration of flowering. The baton of flowering is opened by varieties of hyacinth-flowered lilac - a hybrid of common and broadleaf lilac. In total, 12 early-flowering varieties bloom in early May and 16 late-flowering varieties of the hairy lilac group close the flowering in June. The cheerful varieties ‘Buffon’, ‘Assissipi’, ‘Fenelon’ and the unique ‘Mulatka’ with a rare chocolate shade delight us with their flowering. Their pink inflorescences make your head spin with a mind-blowing aroma. The magical aroma festively fills the garden with a wonderful fragrance, bestows irrepressible beauty on visitors, envelops them in lilac dreams, increases strength, brings peace, tranquility, harmony and makes us experience only positive emotions! The botanical garden presents over 200 varieties of common lilac. The collection includes varieties from breeders from Russia, Ukraine, Germany, Holland, the USA and Canada, and 23 varieties bred by the Central Botanical Garden, but the basis of the collection is made up of classic varieties of French selection, created by the Lemoine company. This year, given the current objective circumstances, traditional meetings with the botanical garden's research staff and consultations - communication between garden visitors and the curator of the lilac collection, PhD Natalia Viktorovna Makedonskaya - will be held online.
