28.03.2023 - 02.04.2023 The Central Botanical Garden of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus invites all schoolchildren to spend their spring holidays with us. From March 28 to April 2, 2023 we offer for organized groups an excursion "Sphinx Plants Near Us" with a visit to the laboratory where scientific research is carried out. Lichens have long been used by humans in various spheres of life. Currently, lichens have found application in medicine, perfumery, food industry… On the excursion, children will learn: why lichens were previously called "sphinx plants"; how lichens help scientists determine the age of ancient structures; how lichens were used by medieval doctors; do modern people use lichens? Children will also see samples from distant Antarctica, learn how to make bags for storing samples and forming their own home collection.
