History of the Plant Protection Laboratory

In 1983, the "Introductory Quarantine Nursery" (IKP), built on the initiative of Academician N.V. Smolsky, was introduced into the laboratory as a structural division of the Central Laboratory. The activity of the nursery was coordinated with the State Inspectorate for Plant Quarantine and a special permit of the Ministry of Agriculture of the USSR, the nursery was included in the Union Quarantine system of the USSR. Under the leadership of V.A. Timofeeva, candidate of agricultural sciences, IKP employees (I.Ya. Batyanovsky, S.A. Stakhovich, V.K. Biziuk, N.A. Kanapatskaya, T.I. Giro) conducted a check for latent infection with quarantine viruses ects. of planting material of decorative plants, which comes to the Central Central Bank, as well as botanical gardens of the USSR.

Since 1985, biotechnological research on microclonal reproduction of begonia, anthurium, and orchids has been developed in the laboratory. Subjects on the assignment of the State Committee for Science and Technology of the USSR on processing raw materials of medicinal plants by biotechnological methods were carried out.

With the expansion of work on the introduction of new decorative, medicinal, fodder, berry plants and the plantation cultivation of some of them, there was a need to study pathogens and phytophages of these crops, as well as to develop measures to protect plants from the most harmful species. The study of fungal diseases of plants and the development of measures to combat them devoted their scientific interest to Dr. S. V. Garlenko, research assistants V. S. Kabzarov, L. I. Linnik, N. G. Dyshuk, N. A. Podobnaya, Yu. L. Smalyak. A group of virologists worked fruitfully: researchers N.S. Savenkov, N.V. Vainila, engineers L.Ya. Garaeva, L.A. Kamyshav. Studies were conducted on the study of pathogens of bacterial plant diseases: L. Ya. Sidarovich, V. S. Golubeva. N.A. Panko, who was the deputy head of the laboratory for many years, T.G. Ioanisiani, A.I. Blintsov, S.U. Buga, S.U. Karavchenko worked in the group of entomologists. The species composition of pests of decorative plants, fodder, medicinal, berry crops was studied. Candidate theses were defended as a result of the research conducted (N.A. Podobnaya, N.G. Dyshuk, N.S. Savenkova, L.Ya. Sidarovich, A.I. Blintsov, S.U. Buga, N.U. Vainila), doctoral dissertation (Y.L. Smalyak).

Employees of the laboratory constantly monitor the phytosanitary condition of collection funds and plantations of the Central Bank, identifying diseases and damage to plants by pests at the earliest stages, assigning and implementing protection measures. For many years this direction was overseen by A.K. Mikolaevich, S.A. Stakhovich and others.

Since 1993, under the leadership of the head of the laboratory, V.A. Timofeeva, studies have been conducted to identify the patterns of the formation of the population structure of pathogens and pests of introduced plants in the green areas of Belarus, the development of an integrated system of protection of plants from diseases and pests, and economic contracts have been implemented. effectiveness of pesticides and fertilizers. Under the leadership of the leading researcher N.G. Dyshuk, the development of the topic on identifying the species composition of disease-causing agents and pests of seedlings and seedlings of forest species in nurseries, forest crops and young trees, on the development of measures to protect them from the most harmful diseases and pests, began. Young specialists come to work in the laboratory: L.A. Galavchenko, S.V. Rumyantsev, A.V. Tsinkevich, I.U. Yaruk, I.I. Butko, A.U. Belazarovich, A.L. Dziomidova, S .N.Lisitsa, S.K.Bakei. Research is being conducted on scientific substantiation of systems of measures to optimize the phytosanitary environment in phytocenoses of ornamental plants; diseases and pests of flower crops grown by the method of small-scale hydroponics are studied; studies on the assessment of the risk of invasions of introduced plants, pathogens and pests in plant communities of different regions of the republic, etc., are being started. In 2014, L.A. Golovchenko defended her candidate's thesis, in 2015 she was elected to the position of head of the laboratory. In 2015, a leading researcher, PhD, joined the laboratory. M.M. Motil, with whose arrival a new direction of research begins, related to the study of the species composition of invasive plant species and the development of measures to combat them in urban plantations.
